Babies are here!!! Five days early. All happy and healthy!!
We've got WHITE babies for the first time in years!!!
A really nice variety. First born is the smallest, which is weird. He's eating well so I'll just have to watch him.
Using Halloween nicknames for this batch. I'm sure they'll all be little monsters!
#1 BOY He's brown, surprise, surprise. He's got white toes all the way around and a white tip on his tail. EVERYBODY has a white tip on their tail. He has a white spot under his chin and a white chest. Smallest puppy.
#2 GIRL She's got the biggest white tip on her tail. Matching white feet in the front and a pink nose and chin. Lots of white underneath. White feet in the back. She seems to be the darkest.
#3 GIRL Butt first. :) Tons of white! White knee socks in the front. Totally white muzzle. She has a bunch of white on the back of her neck that goes most of the way around. White socks in the back and lots of white underneath. Course, the white tip on her tail.
#4 BOY He has matching white knee socks in the front and a white mark above his nose. Matching white socks in the back and two small white marks on the back of his neck.
#5 GIRL WHITE! Biggest puppy so far.
#6 GIRL WHITE! Pete's going to bring over epoxy paint that he uses for his fishing lures so I can paint some toenails to tell the girls apart.
#7 BOY WHITE! What more can I say? hehe
#8 BOY Biggest and the lightest brown. Probably a fawn. White toes all around and white on his tummy.
#9 BOY Exactly like #8 but with a little more white. He's a little darker too. More white on his tail and his tummy.
October 2, 2013 Babies are two days old!!!
Their mother isn't going to be up for any "Mother of the Year" awards that's for sure!
She's almost squished about three of um' already. #2 only has eight lives left.
I'm just going to label them with their numbers for now. No room to fit in their nicknames.
#1 BOY - Spider
#2 GIRL - Mummy
#3 GIRL - Pumpkin
#4 BOY - "Frank"enstein
#5 GIRL - Ghost - white
#6 GIRL - Spook - white
#7 BOY - Goblin - white
#8 BOY - "Drac"ula
#9 BOY - "Jack"-o-lantern
See the two white lines on #4 "Frank's" back? Pretty cool. He and #1 "Spider" are the smallest at this point.
I think #8 "Drac" is the biggest. He's also the lightest. #9 "Jack" is a close second on size and color.
#2 "Mummy" is the darkest.
Oct. 6, 2013 Babies are six days old!!!
Mama Whiskey isn't getting any better with her parenting skills. One more week and I won't have to worry about squishage any longer.
They're all getting big and they all have nice fat tummies. I may start feeding them puppy slop next week. We'll see if mama can keep up.
She's very good at keeping them clean. She just doesn't know not to lay on them.
Drac, #8, is almost twice the size of Spider, #1. Frank, #4, is the next smallest and then Pumpkin, #3. I make sure the three smallest are the first to eat. The big fat ones mostly sleep anyway.
I think Drac, #8, will look like his big brother "Georgio" from Whiskey's first litter. A red.
My boyfriend, Pete, is going to bring over little velcro collars for the white girls. I don't like using collars or colored string. I think they're dangerous. The velcro will come apart before anybody gets choked. I've used fingernail polish in the past but that can wear off rather quickly. All three white babies are identical at this age.
I do know which one is #7, Goblin, cuz he has different parts. :)
Lemme' know if I label somebody incorrectly. I pretty much have the colored pups memorized. Now I just have to learn the white babies.
#1 BOY - Spider
#2 GIRL - Mummy
#3 GIRL - Pumpkin
#4 BOY - "Frank"enstein
#5 GIRL - Ghost - white
#6 GIRL - Spook - white
#7 BOY - Goblin - white
#8 BOY - "Drac"ula
#9 BOY - "Jack"-o-lantern
This little gal is goin' to live with Shawn and his mom, Jodene, in Milwaukee, WI. Deposit 10/08/2013
Oct. 8, 2013 Babies are eight days old!!!
< That's one of the girls. Their noses are already turning black.
#8 boy "Drac" looks more like a baby walrus!!!
Oct. 9, 2013 Babies are nine days old!!!
Okay, I TRIED to feed them puppy slop and it didn't go so well. Only #9-Jack, and #2-Mummy, figured it out.
The income tax extension expires on the 15th. I may be too busy for puppy photos but I'll do my best. Please bare/bear with me :)
Oct. 11, 2013 Babies are eleven days old!!!
Couple more days and I'll be able to sleep through the night. Mom is still a clutz.
Don't know who these white babies are. Can't tell them apart yet. I'll put the velcro collar on one of the girls when they get bigger.
#8 - "Drac" is really getting light. He's more fawn than red I think. I think he'll be a darker version of his father. He's still the biggest too.
Baby girl #3 - Pumpkin, has the longest coat. She may be a possible long coat but it's still early. I don't think anyone else has a long coat.
The boys; #1 - Spider and #4 - Frankie are the smallest. I think they'll start catching up now that they're getting puppy slop.
Oct. 13, 2013 Babies will be two weeks old tomorrow.
Everybody is doing well. I'll de-worm them for the first time tomorrow. And, every two weeks until they leave. Their eyes still aren't open yet but most of them are eating puppy slop and cruisin' around pretty well.
Their mama is doing pretty well. She keeps them very clean. Soon I won't have to worry about her squishing them.
You can see in some of the pictures that #1 - Spider, is still much smaller than the rest. Watch him turn out to be the boss!
One of the white girls is as big as the biggest #8 - Drac
^ Can you see the differences?
Oct. 16, 2013 Babies are sixteen days old.
They're all eating the soggy "Purina Puppy Chow" very well now and #1, Spider, is starting to catch up.
I think maybe #1 Spider and #4 Frankie may be reds like their mama. Still kinda' early to tell. #8 Drac is probably going to be a fawn.
They're turning into little people now. Drac is the lightest and then Jack.
One of the white girls is bigger and has a rounder head. We'll call her #5 Ghost. She might actually be bigger than Drac.
#2 Mummy girl is still the darkest.
Right now I can tell the white girls apart. Once somebody picks one I'll start with the collars.
Oct. 20, 2013 Babies will be three weeks old tomorrow!
Food is always better on the other side of the pan!
Apparently it's Goblin's job to keep everybody clean. That may be a good sign. :)
Frank is always the first to retire after chow.
The pictures will get a little better as they get older. I'll start really watching them now to see how they act.
Oct. 22, 2013 Babies are 22 days old.
#1 Spider is slowly catchin' up to his siblings. He's almost as big as #3 Pumpkin and #2 Mummy. #4 Frank too. I've moved up to the big puppy slop pan and that's too small for this gang!
Next week we'll try dry "Purina Puppy Chow" mixed with dry "Iams Puppy". By the time the pups leave they'll be eating dry kibble and can have either "Iams" or "Purina". Any variety as long as it's puppy and "Iams" or "Purina". I'd stick with either of those for the first six months.
Goblin's nose is almost all black now. Ghost is the bigger of the two girls which makes it hard to tell her apart from her brother.
I still can't tell on the long coat thing. I think maybe Pumpkin. She has the longest coat. It was hard to tell with Whiskey's first litter too.
Oct. 25, 2013 Babies are 25 days old.
I've got a nasty cold and I'm not in the mood for this. :) I took 41 pictures and less than 1/2 turned out. The white babies show up during the day and the other babies are too dark. Vise versa in the evenings. Sheesh.
Hope I have them labeled correctly. Brain dead.
Spook is one of the first to try to escape the whelping cage. Followed by sister Ghost/Kumo.
The girls all have new homes except Pumpkin and I'm pretty sure she's a long coat.
Mallysa and Fu are comin' to pick this weekend then that ball will start rolling. There is one boy available.
Mummy's new name is Deja and Spook doesn't have a new name yet.
< I know that's Goblin and Spook cuz Spook has a dirty nose and Ghost is the same size as Drac. Goblin is a little smaller than Ghost.
If they're not labeled it's cuz I don't know who they are. :)
Frank might be a long coat but I'm not sure yet.
New Name = Sosuke Hachiko
Oct. 27, 2013 Babies will be 4 weeks old tomorrow.
Cold's gone. Photography skills haven't improved.
< That's Jack trying to hump his sister. No dominance issues there.
Today was the first day I let them all out of the whelping cage to explore. Not a shy one in the bunch.
< See, chow is always better on the other side of the pan.
Pumpkin is still available. She has the longest coat but I'm still not sure if we can quality her as a long coat.
I put dry puppy chow out today and they were trying to eat it. I think they spilled more than they ate.
Tomorrow they'll get their second de-worming. And, I think I'll remove the top board so they can climb in and out of the whelping cage. They'll have free rein of a 10' x 12' room and when it's nice out we can explore the deck.
Oct. 29, 2013 Babies are 29 days old.
They're at the cutest age. Just starting to be naughty. The girls were biting at my sweat pants today. They're starting to fight with each other too. Monsters!
They all seem very confident. They know my voice and some come runnin'. They've adapted to their big play room very well. They all love laying by the door. Cooler there. Typical Akitas. Some are eating the dry puppy food. They've been de-wormed twice now and all seems well. They're starting to look a little dirty from living on the newspaper.
Nov. 1, 2013 Babies are almost 5 weeks old.
I took more pictures of Frank and Spider cuz Travis and Jodie are trying to choose. I don't think the boys are going to be long coats but I'm still not totally sure. I am totally sure that Pumpkin is a long coat. Another week and it should be obvious.
This little gal is movin' to Willmar, MN. with Gonzalo and Vanessa and their crew. Deposit 11/04/2013
This little guy is movin' to Chicago, IL. with Lisa and her gang. Didn't bother with a deposit since they'll be meeting us in Madison on Sunday.
This little guy is movin' in with Gerry and Judy. They had Billy/Magnum from one of our very first litters. He recently went to "Rainbow's Bridge" and is missed terribly.
