Babies were born in the barn a week before I was expecting them.
Six beautiful babies. Five boys and one girl. Unfortunately two boys went to Rainbow's Bridge.
1) BOY Born sometime before 8:15 a.m. He was nearly frozen when I found him but I was able to slowly warm him and he's back with the living!!!
He's all black with white toes all around and a white tip on his tail.
2) BOY Ditto! Except this guy's right front foot only has three white toes and he's got a tiny white dot on the back of his neck. He's the biggest boy.
3) GIRL Born, in the house, at 9:10 a.m. She's big and happy and bossy. She's got a large white marking on the back of her neck. Her toes are all white too. White tip on her tail too. The usual. :)
4) BOY Born at 11:15 a.m. He's the smallest pup at this point. Also seems to be the most calm. He's also the lightest and may be the only fawn.
02/26/2011 Their first day of life.
Daddy. He'll be three in April.
Mom's a mess but ain't she beautiful?!?!?!
Guess I'll quit labeling the little girl. You get the idea. :)
03/04/2011 Babies will be a week old tomorrow. They're really tanks. Plenty of chow to go around. I weighed them today.
We're givin' um' wintery nicknames.
New name Callaloo.
"Cally"?
#1 Boy - Frosty weighed in at 2 3/4 lbs.
#2 Boy - Freezy is the biggest. He's almost 3 lbs.
#3 Girl - Chilly is also 2 3/4 lbs.
#4 Boy - Flurry is almost 2 3/4 lbs. I think that's a new record for 6 day old pups!
For those of you who asked if
Akitas like to sleep on their backs. >
They start early. hehe
Below; See that tiny white spot of the back of his neck?
Except they're too fat to roll all the way on to their backs. :)
#4 Flurry is still the lightest. He's not getting light as fast as his father did so he probably won't be as fawn as Grommet.
They're all really fat and their coats are so shiny.
Mama Suji is doing a very good job and loving all the extra attention.
#2 Freezy, mister white dot, has the least amount of white on his feet. I think I had that wrong in the beginning. He and Frosty are almost identical except Freezy has more white underneath and that white chin.
They chose Flurry. His new name is Samurai Hattori Hanzo "Hanzo".
^ That's Freezy and you can't see him very well but look at how FAT!!!
Chilly, her new name is Calaloo "Cala".
03/13/2011 Babies are 15 days old today. Man the time flies. They're starting to open their eyes now and they're really starting to cruise around. They're all about the same size now too. Flurry caught up.
Tuesday I'll pick up some "Purina Puppy Chow" and we'll start eating puppy slop. :)
03/17/2011 Babies are almost three weeks old. They got their first de-worming today. Nobody seemed to mind. :)
Hard work being an Akita.
While everybody else is napping, after their second attempt at puppy slop, Freezy wants his mama!
He would have climbed right out had I not been there. A man who knows what he wants. :)
First feeding was pretty hilarious. I had to wake Frosty up from a nap and he actually ate while laying on his side. Don't think I've ever seen that before. We're takin' lazy boy!
Now he's pouting cuz he didn't get his way.
03/22/2011 Babies are almost 3 1/2 weeks old.
One of the boys crawled up in my lap today and just laid there. 'Cept now I can't remember which one.
Some growl at me when I tease um'. :)
They think they're tough! :)
I won't let um' get away with it much longer. It's really cute right now...
They chose Freezy and his new name is "Ranger".
They chose Frosty and his new name is "Mikoto" which means "prince" in Japanese.
04/03/2011 Babies were 5 weeks old yesterday. They are really amazing little people!!!
Well, my babies are getting soooo big!!! Especially Frosty/Mikoto. He's a baby giant. His feet are just huge. Guess that's typical for a long coat. He's also the happiest boy I've ever met. Chilly/Cala is the boss. She and Flurry/Hanzo are the guard puppies. She's the smartest of course. :) Freezy still climbs up in your lap for lovin'. He loves his people. He also really loves his mama. He'll sit and stare at the door waiting for her. :)
04/06/2011 Babies are 5 1/2 weeks old now. We had our first big adventure outside today. Freezy/Mikoto was the first to follow me out the door.
Flurry/Hanzo is the most brave. It was funny. They were walking all goofy because of the feel of the gravel on their feet.
Frosty/Mikoto was afraid to climb over the big rocks but he conquered his fear. He's also got poop all over him. Probably cuz he spends most of his time rolling over playing with, and submitting to, his siblings.
The boys with their mama. I'm thinkin' they're gettin' a little big to be nursing. :) I can't believe how big they are for 5 1/2 weeks!!!
Frosty/Mikoto is my giant galoot! He's the happiest boy. He's all, "I'm ready for anything! Whacha' wanna' do?"
Chilly/Calaloo is the boss I think.
There aren't as many pictures of Honzo cuz he was off exploring. Had to coax him out from under the deck a few times.
They were all pretty brave for their first trip outside. Not counting when Grandpa Pete was holding um'.
As you see, Freezy's new name is Ranger. Fits him. He was out patrolling the grounds today. :) They all tried to hide under the car at one point or another. They're all back in their puppy room fast asleep now.
04/13/11 Babies are 6 1/2 weeks old and growin' like weeds!!!
My best friend Pete and I took the little monsters out to play. They figured out how to sneak under the gate of their mother's kennel. Soup's on!!!
Two of my babies are leaving this Sunday.
Suji bites and tackles um'. Guess she's teaching but she sure seemed rough.
Not many pictures of Frosty/Mikoto this time. He spent the whole time in Pete's lap. Happy happy boy!!!
< May as well pull up a chair and enjoy some lunch.
I'll label them later. I don't have time right now. :)
04/25/2011 Babies were eight weeks old a couple days ago. Only Flurry/Hanzo is still here.
He looks exactly like his grandpa Mac!
Visiting mommy and daddy.
Everybody is gone now. These are pictures from their new families. :)
Calaloo and her mama Lindsey.
How pitiful is that? That darn kitty is in MY BED!!!
